Iowa invites the public to
a dedication of new images on the Wall of Witnesses in
Soumas Court at 4:30 p.m. Friday, July
20.
Soumas Court
is east of the Hotel Pattee and the Ray B. Smith Museum Store on
Willis Avenue.
The Wall of Witnesses displays the faces of well-known
men and women from Perry and the surrounding area, including Flora Bailey,
Cornelia Bulkley, Earl Green, V.T. “Snick” Hamlin, Betty Mae Harris, Horace
Lewis, Hazel Purviance, John Turner, Roy Whyte and Ned Willis. The
identities of the new witnesses will not be revealed until the dedication.
The Wall of Witnesses may eventually include one hundred
plaques designed by different artists. The community is invited to
nominate candidates for the wall. Nomination forms are available at the Ray B.
Smith Museum Store as well as at HPI offices in the
Security
Bank
Building. HPI seeks
nominees with interesting life histories who have made an impact on the
community.
