Photographs from Sandy Dyas’ newest book, Down to
the River: Portraits of Iowa Musicians, will be exhibited June through August
in the
Carnegie
Library
Museum,
1123 Willis Avenue,
Perry. Dyas also will discuss her work and sign books at the Carnegie at 7
p.m., Thursday, July 19. Both the exhibition and Dyas’s presentation are free
and open to the public.
Sandy Dyas moved to
Iowa
City in 1987 and began photographing its live music
scene, which included musicians playing a variety of styles from folk and blues
to rock. The 60 photos in Down to the River document the past 20 years of
Dyas’s work among these
Iowa
musicians.
Dyas teaches photography at
Cornell
College
and has a thriving free-lance business. Her work has been published widely. The
Down to the River project was supported in part by the Iowa Arts Council. The
exhibition and presentation in Perry are sponsored in part by the Bock Family
Foundation and Hometown Perry,
Iowa.
In collaboration with this unique exhibit, Hometown Perry, Iowa, and the Perry
Chamber of Commerce will offer Homegrown in Iowa, a concert series showcasing several of the musicians portrayed in the photographs:
