David Gonzalez - SPOT event

How might a tiny mouse help a giant lion? Could a talking flounder really be an enchanted prince? Why does the turtle have a checkered shell? You'll be dazzled by the answers in a physical, fast-paced, and funky show by master storyteller David Gonzalez. Funny voices, witty songs, fresh movement, and plenty of audience participation come together for a delightful event.  The New York Times hailed as "an engaging performer with a supple voice and a command of gestures."

David Gonzalez will give several public performances April 22-24 in Perry. The first is a story reading at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, April 22 at the Perry Public Library followed by a reception hosted by the Friends of the Perry Public Library.

The grand Perry performance by Gonzalez takes place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at the McCreary Community Building , 1800 Pattee Street .  Admission for the final performance is $2 for adults and $1 for students.

Gonzalez’s appearance is part of the SPOT Project, started in November 2003 when the Wallace Foundation awarded The University of Iowa's Hancher Auditorium a four-year, $800,000 "Leadership and Excellence in Arts Participation" (LEAP) grant. The purpose was to enhance arts participation in Iowa communities through the use of technology and direct interaction with performing artists. Hancher is collaborating with Hometown Perry, Iowa (HPI) and the Perry Public Library to bring SPOT entertainers to Perry.
