will host a guided walking tour in Perry’s
Violet
Hill
Cemetery
at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29. Participants will visit the graves of several of Perry’s well-known residents and study examples of gravestones and burial symbols.
Once known as the city cemetery,
Violet
Hill
Cemetery
was renamed in 1905 for the blue carpet of violets that covered the grounds in the spring. Today Violet Hill is the final resting place of numerous loved ones of local residents as well as a number of Perry’s early settlers, civic leaders and illustrious, notorious and eccentric personalities.
The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. Good walking shoes are recommended because of the uneven terrain. Cost is $7 per person for non-members and $5 for Hometown Perry,
Iowa
members. Tickets are on sale at the offices of Hometown Perry,
Iowa
or the
Carnegie
Library
Museum

In case of inclement weather the tour will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1.
